dear audibilities class,
humming let's go to the beach-each let's go get away as I walked towards the lighthouse today and it never fails to get stuck in my head. 129 days riding into the night with distant crashes of waves a few blocks away. books say the waters all look the same and gwen is here and eliza is here but amelia isn't back yet and they are all sitting in comfortable silence and comfortable is good. i miss hearing all their singing because now i am the only person who sings in the apartment and when we harmonized we used to make islands and sand out of our mouth noises. we've never happy cried. but amelia is in michigan and i am out on her bike biking to the beach, the one beach in evanston we haven't been to together yet. and the wind doesn't inhale ever i hear only sighs when i sit by the water. when we were children we thought everything was new and curious and the coolness of the water flowing over my foot alone would excite me for days but now i look into the lake looking for something else, something that isn't this body of water but what it reminds me of. planes fly over my head and i think of where they are taking their passengers; at some point going home and leaving is just one and the same thing. I was silent sitting watching listening to the people, in the daylight and later under the moon, except it's less of a moon and more of a grayness from pollution and some distant lights of the chicago skyline. sand got caught in my shoes. I stepped in barefoot.
